Area Description (back to top)
San Lorenzo Valley is made up of the following communities:
- Ben Lomond
- Boulder Creek
San Lorenzo Valley is one of the most affordable areas in Santa Cruz County. Many homes here were formally summer cabins that have been converted for use in all seasons. Lot sizes tend to be much larger here than in many subdivisions. Many homes have septic systems, and others have their own private wells for water.
Many subdivisions have community water systems road associations, which typically cost owners anywhere from $500 to $1000 per year. Some subdivisions have swimming pools and other communal facilities.
The San Lorenzo Valley has a reputation of being "remote" - but Boulder Creek, the town "farthest out" is only 20-25 minutes to Santa Cruz, while Felton is a short drive from Santa Cruz via Highway 9 or Graham Hill Road. Felton is also an ideal commune location to the Silicon Valley, as Mount Hermon Road will take you to Scotts Valley and then to Highway 17 for the driver over the hill. By living in Felton, you avoid the infamous "fish hook" which can snarl traffic badly during peak traffic hours.
